Welcome to the HHS Dance Department!
The Dance Department of the Academy for Performing and Visual Arts at Heritage High School offers a rigorous high school dance education. The Dance program at Heritage provides students with the opportunity to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of dance as a fine art. Students learn and refine dance skills and techniques in class and in performance, study the historical and cultural significance of dance and its evolution as an art form, and evaluate personal work and the work of others. Academy dance students have opportunities to perform in two to four major dance concerts, as well as other small performance opportunities throughout the school year. Students also receive the chance to go on field trips and experience performances by professional caliber dance companies, such as the Atlanta Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, the Georgia Ballet, and many others. The dance department of the Academy for Performing and Visual Arts at Heritage High School is geared to not only prepare the students in the technical aspects of dance, but also to become more creative and intellectually engaged students, committed to the enrichment of society. |

About Our Dance Education Curriculum
All dance courses are designed to align with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Dance, as well as the National Core Arts Standards for Dance. Performance Opportunities
HHS Dance Repertory Company HHS Dance Academy’s top students audition annually to participate with this touring performance group. Students of the company perform in the Fall, Winter, and Spring dance concerts. HDRC members also perform a variety of dance styles for schools, businesses, and other events throughout the community. Fall for Dance The HHS Dance Repertory Company performs a variety of classical to contemporary dance works. repertoire. This mixed repertoire concert features choreography by HHS dance faculty. Winter Dance Concert This holiday production showcases choreography by HHS dance faculty and features performances by professional guest artists. Spring Dance Concert This spring production showcases choreography by HHS dance faculty and professional guest choreographers. Senior Choreography Showcase Dancers can perform in pieces choreographed by members of the senior class. |
